A truck that ran out of gas is what caused Polk County Police to discover a woman wanted on several charges, and another facing a new drug charge after Xanax was found in her purse during a Wednesday incident, according to reports.
Officers arrested Laura Ann McCleary, 38, of a Cedartown address and Cynthia Marques, 59, of a Rockmart address on the morning of Wednesday, February 7, 2024 when the two and a male driver were found in the middle of Old Cedartown Road at the intersection of Sardis Road broken down after the truck ran out of gas.
Police found nothing of issue with the driver, but did note in the report the smell of marijuana was coming from inside the car and ordered Marques and McCleary out and wanted their IDs.
McCleary didn’t want to tell officers anything about her due to warrants out for her arrest on previous charges, but she ultimately revealed her identity and she was taken into custody.
During a search of the truck and the contents officers found 13 pills that were identified as Xanax inside of a purse that Marques told officers was hers. Both were taken onward to the Polk County Jail without further incident.
Marques was charged with a single felony for possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance and was let out on a $5,000 bond on Thursday.
McCleary remained in custody without bond set on charges for failure to appear and a probation violation, both felony-level offenses.
