Mother nature rolled the dice again in Polk County, but fortunately no reports of damage came of tornado watches in place overnight locally but other areas of the southeast weren’t so lucky.
Clarksville, Tennessee and the Nashville-Henderson area saw major touchdowns and areas of Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky and the Florida panhandle saw damage from a major cold front pushing through and spawning high winds, severe thunderstorms and much more.
Polk County EMA officials this morning did not report any major damage at this time locally.
The National Weather Service did receive reports of minor damage in the metro Atlanta area in Douglas, Cobb and Coweta counties.
The major incident happened in Clarksville, Tennessee near the southern Kentucky border, where a tornado touched down near the northern mid-state city and crossed over the state line. Major damage was caused and reports from national media indicate six were killed in the storms.
Six different storms are reported to have hit the state of Tennessee on Saturday afternoon.
The same stormy weather has pushed eastward into the Carolina, coastal Georgia and the mid-Atlantic region and stretching into New England is expected to cause additional havoc as heavy winds, severe thunderstorms, snow and more are possible from the current front.
Rainy weather is expected to push out of the area by the afternoon, and temperatures that started out in the 60s are going to stop dropping into the 40s by early evening hours.
Look for temperatures to drop down to 27 overnight. Take precautions against freezing temperatures.
Sunshine returns locally on Monday with a high of 50, and down to a low of 25. Chilly temperatures are expected to hang around through the rest of the week with lows down into the 30s for the rest of the week. Chances for rain return this coming weekend.
