A traffic stop ended with two being cuffed for warrants, three about to walk away but the discovery of a gun and methamphetamine during a search before towing ended with everyone going to jail, per Rockmart Police reports.
According to the report released today, the five were pulled over by Rockmart Police around 10:20 p.m. on Friday, September 8 when the Dodge Dakota they were in made an illegal left hand turn from Piedmont Avenue to Highway 278 by going into the right hand lane. Police pulled the truck over at Industrial Drive, and found Starling Hudson, 49, of Aragon; Davie Meeks, 27, of Rockmart; Houston Cheyenne Dekota Pointer, 26, of Rockmart; Brittany Christine McClarty, 37, of Dallas; Michael Lamar Alley, 26, of Aragon within the vehicle.
Police reported that behind the wheel they found Hudson, who handed over a Bill of Sale that hadn’t been completed and handed over his license. Per the report, the officer found that Hudson had a warrant when checking his information through state and national crime databases.
Hudson was taken into custody without further incident.
When police were ready to release the truck to the next potential drive – Alley, who was in the passenger seat – was also found to have warrants and was subsequently taken into custody before he could leave with the truck.
During this time, the officer called for backup from fellow officers and for a K-9 unit to sniff the truck. K-9 Gena didn’t sniff out any contraband at the time, so the trio who remained without immediate trouble were able to get to leave and head home on foot, or at least someplace where they could get another ride.
Until officers began to inventory the inside of the truck and found a pipe with what appeared to be freshly smoked methamphetamine within, and within the bed of the truck a tool bag that had additional meth, and then in the driver’s side compartment a .38 special revolver.
No one wanted to claim the handgun or meth, so all five were taken to jail and subsequently charged in the traffic stop on felony possession of methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.
After being taken to jail, Meeks spoke to an officer and claimed possession of the pipes in the truck containing methamphetamine. The officer noted it but told Meeks that “the charges would not be changed due to his inconsistent statements.”
All five remained in custody as of this posting on multiple charges and various bond amounts.
Hudson remains in jail with the largest bond of the group and most charges. He was booked into custody on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first offender; and misdemeanor charges of two counts of possession and use of drug-related objects, driving while license suspended or revoked, removing or affixing license plate with intent to conceal or misrepresent, and improper left or right turn.
