Previously posted:

Seaborn Jones Park and the area around downtown Rockmart was inundated with rainfall on Sunday afternoon, and the stormy weather continues through the rest of the evening in Polk County per the National Weather Service forecast.

Polk remains under a severe thunderstorm watch through 9 p.m., and severe thunderstorm warnings have come and gone in recent hours this afternoon as heavy rain, wind and lightning persist through until the evening hours, per the forecast.

Chances for thunderstorms remain at 40% per the NWS Peachtree City office’s forecast, but with as much wet weather as has moved through the area, one can expect it with a large line of storms moving through Northwest Georgia as far down to Carroll County along the Alabama state line.

The line of storms will produce serious lightning and thunder, and could bring more than a quarter inch of rain to localized areas.

Be advised of the potential for flash flooding.

Several groups in the park on Sunday afternoon during the first round of afternoon storms were forced to take cover and wait out a severe thunderstorm that moved through the Rockmart area. The park flooded, and fortunately no one was injured at the time.

Check back for additional weather updates as need through the rest of the evening.
