Anavitarte to host Office Hours during lunch on Wednesday at Sidekicks BBQ in Rockmart
There’s only five months until the Gold Dome gets busy again with the business of the state, and our local State Senator and the Lieutenant Governor are going to discuss what they want to see happen in the area of cyberbullying and social media.
State Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R-31st District) didn’t go into full details about the priorities, but the agenda will extend measures passed during the 2023 session, including the news-making ‘TikTok ban’ that went to Governor Brian Kemp’s desk as Senate Bill 93.
The main objectives of Sen. Anavitarte and Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones in the conference are to address additional legislative efforts toward curtailing cyberbullying, as well as social media safety via an age verification system.
“We as a legislative body have an obligation to do more to ensure that our children aren’t falling victim to predators and cyberbullying when they are on social media platforms,” Anavitarte said. “Our goal as we enter the new legislative year will be to continue to push our work forward toward keeping our kids safe online, and we won’t stop until we’ve made a difference.”
Lt. Gov. Jones and Sen. Anavitarte’s press conference is being held in Senate Press Office conference room and additional answers about the details of their upcoming agenda for cyber issues in the State Senate for the 2024 session. They’ll have 40 days to iron out and get State House members to agree to any legislation they put forward, then it would proceed to the Governor’s desk for signature.

The August 7 press conference will then be followed by a lunchtime Senate Office Hours locally in Polk County. Sen. Anavitarte will be at Sidekicks BBQ in Rockmart from 12 to 1 p.m.
