The Rockmart Lady Jackets playing host to the Lady Cougars down in Crisp County on Wednesday.
Rockmart is playing on their home field for the first round of the playoffs at 2 and 4 p.m. – with an if-necessary game scheduled for Thursday – in a double header against the Lady Cougars from down in Cordele.
A second place finish in the region puts the Lady Jackets in prime position after a 19-6 season to make another run for a state title in Columbus later this month, but first they have to get through the Lady Cougars.
Rockmart is coming off a 13-7 win over Trion to finish the regular season, ending a two-game skid against Sonoraville and North Cobb Christian to finish out region play earlier this month.
The Lady Jackets head into the playoffs tomorrow with a bracket spot that could put them in the driver’s seat in Class AA. If they make it past a 7-13 Crisp squad in the opening round.
Rockmart would then face the winner of Redan-South Atlanta next Tuesday in the second round, and head into the Elite Eight with a chance to play in Columbus on the line for an Oct. 30 through Nov. 2 tournament to finish out the season.
