VOLLEYBALL: Rockmart up big heading into final matches of the season

The Rockmart Lady Jackets sit in a comfortable spot as the season is winding down for volleyball, giving the squad opportunities aplenty to head to the playoffs this year.

The 18-9 Lady Jackets volleyball team after a break at the beginning of September with wins all over the area ranging from Gaylesville over in Alabama to New Manchester in the metro area, Dade County to the North and Heard County to the south.

Rockmart’s latest run put saw them pick up a win over Union County and a loss to Sonoraville on Tuesday, and then a 3-0 victory over Douglas County on Wednesday.

They’re back in action in a few minutes as of time of writing against Armuchee and Cass at home, with upcoming matches with Central Carroll and Coahulla Creek coming up on Saturday.

A Sept. 17 round robin with Coahulla Creek and North Murray get them back into region play, with a Sept. 19 homestand against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe and North Cobb Christian.

Later in the month, Rockmart faces Dalton and Boyd-Buchanan on Sept. 24, a Sept. 26 round against Cass and Woodland, and then rounding out the season in October with Ringgold and Murray County on October 1, and an Oct. 2 regular season finish with Haralson County and Cedartown.

The upcoming run in the region gives Rockmart a chance to improve their 7-AA record to get back into playoff contention. They sit at fifth place currently with a 1-1 record, tied with Ringgold.

North Cobb Christian, Sonoraville, Coahulla Creek and LFO sit in the top four spots in region play as of this posting.
