The Rockmart Yellow Jackets went three-up, three-down over Gordon Central in the region opener series and are at the top of the standings at mid-season in 7-AA.
That puts them tied with Model (also 3-0 in region play) and a game ahead of Haralson County (2-0) in 7-AA as the Jackets wrapped up their week on Thursday and head into their next series against Murray County starting on Tuesday at home.
Rockmart’s week didn’t end as well as their region play went over Gordon Central, which included a third-game, 22-0 shutout over the Warriors last week.
The Jackets initially held a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on the road trip to East Coweta, but the Indians took a 3-2 lead after a two-run third, and busted open on offense with 8 runs batted in during the bottom of the fifth inning to take an 11-2 victory after holding off Rockmart batters through the final two times up to bat.
Rockmart at the beginning of the week took a 6-2 win over Cass at home on Monday, and a 4-0 victory on the road at Lovett on Tuesday.
Murray County is in town on March 19 in the series opener in region play over the Indians, and then Rockmart takes a trip next Friday, March 22 to wrap up the series in a double header on the road.
After that, Fannin County hosts on March 26, and Rockmart will be back in town on March 29 to host the Rebels for back-to-back games to wrap up the series.
