Rockmart is battling it out with all comers as the hunt for the playoffs continues for the Lady Jackets heading into the final home stretch of the season with some big games ahead on the road and at home.
The first of those will be to finish off a region matchup on Friday on the road against a local foe who is at the bottom of the standings.
Haralson County hosts the Lady Jackets for region play on Friday evening, and sitting at 0-8 the 4-4 Rockmart squad in 7-AA play has a chance for a big win to start off the weekend.
One that includes showdown with rival Cedartown on Saturday at home.
The Lady Jackets took home a win on January 13 over the Lady Bulldogs in a 63-36 victory, and were on a three-game winning streak until they hit a road block against Murray County on the road on Tuesday night in a 75-28 loss.
If they can get back on track, they have the trip to Rebel country, they host their rivals and finish off the season at home with Fannin County (third place currently) and North Murray (in fifth) in region play before facing Model, who sits atop the region mountain once again.
Those games on Jan. 30, February 2 and Feb. 6 will finish off the regular season before region tournament play, but the Lady Jackets can seal their season with a few more wins under their belt, it will definitely make the difference heading into tourney time and then the playoffs.
They’ll need every Lady Jacket to play perfect for the rest of the season to get over the hump and into the promise land of a new season on the state level. Good news? Rockmart’s got the squad to make it happen.
Analee Morris is cruising at 21.4 points per game, with Sky Myers at 15.3 ppg and a field goal percentage at 45 to ensure they have the perimeter and inside game covered. Emma Hindmon will need to pick up some additional rebounds along the way to increase her average to double digits over the 8.5 rebounds/game average she’s hitting currently.
Morris – leading the team in several categories in the scorebooks this year – can continue to act as general on the floor, but she’ll need assistance from Hindmon, Myers and Zori Williams inside the paint for the difference makers over the next five contests.
Check back over the weekend on Sunday for how the Lady Jackets are faring heading into the final three games of the 2023-24 regular season campaign.
