CPD books man for criminal trespass last week, catches him again Easter Sunday trying to break into cars and homes
A Newnan man remained in the Polk County Jail without bond set for his second arrest in less than a week after he was caught trying to break into homes and cars by police on Maple Drive, according to Cedartown Police reports.
Officers first arrested Gregory Lyle Epperson, 56, of a Newnan address on Tuesday, April 4 after he was found on the porch of a Buchanan Highway residence. Cedartown Police took what should have been a Polk County Police call while the other agency already had officers out working.
Per the first report, Epperson was reported by the homeowner to be on her front porch and was scared “due tot he way he was acting.”
When officers arrived, they asked Epperson what he was doing there and he told them that he was there to collect his son. The homeowner told police she’d never seen him or his son before. When Epperson refused to leave and began cussing at officers, they took him into custody and booked him into the Polk County Jail on charges of criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and loitering or prowling.
He was only in custody until Wednesday when his $3,000 bond was met.
Cedartown Police were called out to deal with Epperson again after he was found on a Maple Drive home trying to break into the house. According to the second report taken on Easter Sunday, he broke a sliding glass door to gain entry into a Maple Drive home and when the homeowner screamed after finding him trying to get inside, he first tried to get her car but then fled.
Officers found Epperson at the north end of Maple Drive trying to get away. He was apprehended without further incident.
Per the report, police heard from a second victim on the street who told officers that he caught Epperson trying to break into his car. He was unsuccessful getting in and nothing was taken at the time of the report.
Based on their previous experience with Epperson, officers believed he was potentially high on methamphetamine at the time of the incident.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Polk County Jail for the second time in five days on felonies for criminal damage to property, criminal trespass, two counts of entering automobile or other motor vehicle with intent to commit theft or felony, and first-degree burglary. He also faces misdemeanor charges of two counts of loitering or prowling, criminal trespass, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
He remained in custody as of this posting without bond set.
