BASKETBALL: Rockmart boys remain perfect through early season play

The Rockmart Yellow Jackets are on a big roll.

Six games up, Six opponents down for Rockmart as they took their latest victories on the road on Friday and Saturday.

Rockmart opened the season with double digit wins over Mt. Zion, Chattooga and Bowdon early on in the season, and then this week toppled Heard County in a close one, a 20+ point win over Gordon Central and then finished out with a weekend trip to Cartersville.

A Saturday 68-63 victory gave the Jackets an opportunity to stand out against a Canes squad that have struggled to find their footing as the year got underway.

Treylin Davis and Sam Johnson remain on top of the scoreboard for the Jackets, though contributors are coming across the board as they head into mid-December. Davis sits at 123 points through the first five games of the year so far, averaging more than 24 points a game. He added another 35 against Cartersville in their win on Saturday. Johnson after five isn’t far behind with 116 points, averaging 23 points per game.

Hunter Atkins hit 44 points for the early season, Trey Luke is at 53 points, Dakota Bramlett at center has 12, MJ Berry is sitting at 26.

Rockmart has a round of region and non-region opponents coming up before a holiday break and post-Christmas tourney play. The Jackets host Murray on Friday, December 15 as the Indians seek to knock Rockmart off their hot streak.

They’ll travel to Chattooga on Saturday, December 16 for an afternoon return game and wrapping up before the Christmas break with a home region game against Haralson on December 19.
