Teen facing multiple felony charges as an adult
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation provided a brief update in a release this afternoon, providing the victim’s name following the Saturday shooting that left a woman dead, and a 15-year-old male in custody.
GBI officials confirmed that Cieria Lashae Colvin died as a result of a single gunshot wound at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center in Rome on Saturday afternoon following attempts to treat her.
Ashjuan Stocks, 15, is now officially facing charges of malice murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a pistol by person under 18, and possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a housing authority. All are felony charges.
Officials announced he was charged with murder on Sunday morning.
Rockmart Police requested assistance in the case from the GBI. Three individuals were originally taken into custody in the incident, but two were released after questioning without charges.
Per their release, Colvin was found shot in the area of Forrest Court in Rockmart on Saturday, and was subsequently rushed to the hospital.
Their release noted the GBI investigation is ongoing. Thus far, officials have not yet reelased any details about exactly how the shooting occurred, or why Stocks allegedly fired the round that ended with Colvin’s death.
