Second day of qualifying sees County Commission Special Election become three-candidate race

The shortened period of candidates getting on the ballot in Polk County for special elections for the District 2 County Commission seat and the Aragon City Council saw another candidate qualify.

Glenn Robinson, who previously challenged Commissioner Chuck Thaxton in June primary, is now seeking another chance to serve District 2 on the board in the countywide race to determine who will fill the rest of the term of former Commissioner Jennifer Hulsey.

Linda Liles, who got on the ballot on Wednesday, was appointed to serve on the County Commission following Hulsey’s resignation to run for the State House District 16 seat.

Chris Roberson is also seeking the District 2 seat in the November race.

Only a few hours remain on Friday for candidates to pay their qualifying fees and file the paperwork in the District 2 race and for the Aragon City Council seat for the fall election. The office opens at 9 a.m. and qualifying closes out at noon for both races.

Aragon’s race to fill time left on the council left open when Candace Seiz resigned her position so far features former Public Works Director Daniel Johnson, and no other candidate so far.

Qualifying fees due at filing with the Board of Elections for that race are $36. They are $144 for the County Commission race.
