Police says Channell told officers “he did not mean to open the door on that vehicle.”

A Taylorsville man was taken into custody by officers after he initially refused to open the door of the trailer where he was staying on McKibben Street when he was being sought for charges for illegally entering an auto after he opened a car door on the morning of Sept. 2, per reports.
Initially, officers were dispatched to the McKibben Street trailer park on Friday after reports came in that Andrew Dalton Channell, 30, of 120 Old Alabama Wagon Road, Taylorsville, had opened up a neighbor’s car door on Sept. 2 just before midnight.
Per the report, the owner of the car found nothing missing, but did report to police that he was friends with a manager on site. Channell was seen in footage looked over by the Polk County Police entering the car, and then immediately leaving afterward. They found out additional information about his living situation from management, as well as report that they had gotten complaints about him prowling around the trailer park since he began staying there.
They weren’t able to find him at the time, but the next day law enforcement were able track him down.
On Saturday, Channell was spotted returning back to the trailer where he was staying, and police arrived not long after to ask him to come out so they could take him into custody.
During the incident, PCPD officers noted he refused to open the door and that Channell told officers “he did not mean to open the door on that vehicle.”
After being ordered several more times to come out, Channell finally turned himself over to officers.
He was ultimately charged with a felony for entering automobile or other motor vehicle with intent to commit theft or felony, and misdemeanors for loitering or prowling, criminal trespass and obstructing law enforcement officers.
He remained in custody on a $3,500 bond as of this posting.
