The Rockmart High Lady Yellow Jackets softball squad were supposed to squeeze in a pre-season scrimmage game against the Pepperell Lady Dragons on Thursday evening, but a rainout knocked those plans out of the park.

North Atlanta went down in a 5-2 game on Friday afternoon, followed up by a 3-1 win over the Ringgold Lady Tigers. When play resumed on Saturday, the Lady Jackets then took a 3-2 win over Northwest Whitfield, and then finished off the tournament with a 15-9 win over the Lady Canes from Cartersville.

Rockmart got to work early in the tournament, putting up a 3-0 lead and extending it to 5-0 over North Atlanta in the early innings, and held on despite the opposition adding a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Jackets saw solid hitting performances from seniors Briley King and Emma Scott on the day. King put up a two-run double and Scott added n RBI of her own.

Rockmart only had to put up five innings of work against the Ringgold Lady Tigers before they were finished off in a 3-1 victory. Rockmart score twice in the third to take the lead and Ringgold added their lone run in the bottom half of the inning attempting to keep pace, but the Lady Jackets added a run and the game was called after the bottom of the fifth.

The Lady Bruins from Northwest Whitfield on Saturday attempted to deal Rockmart their first loss, and they had a two-run lead after scoring in the bottom of the second and third. Then Rockmart came out in the top of the fifth and the batting work of junior Cheyenne Jordan and senior Zori Williams got the Lady Jackets in the drivers seat for the rest of the game.

Rockmart finished out tournament play with a win over Cartersville. The 15- victory over the Lady Purple Hurricanes saw everyone have the opportunity to knock softballs around the diamond, but King earned the biggest hit of the day with a 2-RBI homer. Three different players all had hits on their appearances at the plate – Kiley Statham, Analee Morris and Kaylee Huckaby.
