The Rockmart Lady Jackets will have a pre-season warmup this afternoon (weather pending, of course) and then kick off their regular season (weather pending) this weekend during a tournament on the road.

Rockmart faces off against Pepperell in a scrimmage game to start off the year, with the first pitch set for 5 p.m. on the Lady Jackets’ home diamond. The squad comes loaded this year with senior talent who come off of a playoff run in the fall of 2022.

Rockmart’s got seniors like Zori Williams, Briley King, Analee Morris, Emma Hindmon, Emily Hindmon, Emma Scott and Anna Suits all getting opportunities this season to end it on a high note before graduating next year with the Class of 2024.

Their senior leadership will be heading up a team that is otherwise young. 8 of the squad are freshmen and sophomores this year and will be looking toward the experience of the Lady Jackets to lead the way toward another shot at a region title and heading back to state.

The team last year put up big numbers and made it to the Elite 8 round of the playoffs before Appling County knocked them out in the first round bracket, and after a win over Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, Pierce County ended the Lady Jackets season to advance.

Rockmart’s squad went 12-0 in region play last year to pick up their latest title in 7-AA, and held a 25-5 record overall.

Now with the new season at hand, they have work to do to get back to the top. After to scrimmage today, the Lady Jackets on Friday are set to start in the Cass Tournament at Hamilton Crossing. Ringgold will play against Rockmart at 6 p.m. Friday, and then the Lady Jackets play Cartersville and Northwest Whitfield in a 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. round of games on Saturday.

Make sure to mark the calendar for August 9, when the Lady Jackets host rival Cedartown at home for a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
