REPORT: Two parked in front of bonding office jailed by Polk County Police this past Friday

Two people who were parked in front of the Polk County Jail illegally ended up inside the facility over the weekend after a firearm and drugs were found in the car and passenger, per Polk County Police reports.

Nicholas Bennis Nettles, 28, of 57 Wheeler Road, Rockmart, and Taylor Marie Teems, 29, of 152 Barber Road, Rockmart, were both taken into custody on Friday night around 10 p.m. by Polk County Police on Friday night in front of the jail bonding office after the pair were kept in place by officers when they were found to be parked illegally.

Per reports, Polk County Police pulled up behind a green SUV that was parked into the no-parking zone in front of the bonding lobby at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The reporting officer did note that the Sheriff’s Office stopped letting people park in the area due to problems with attempts by people to smuggle drugs and other contraband into the Polk County Jail.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on the parked SUV and and made contact with the driver, Taylor Teems, and passenger, Nicholas Nettles. Teems and Nettles were informed after they handed over their identification that because they were over the guard line of the Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle and themselves were subject to being searched.

Nettles told officers that he had a gun in the car “but there weren’t any drugs.”

Police secured the gun, got both out of the car and began a search as their information was run through state and national criminal databases.

Reports stated when they searched Nettles, they found a metal container in his pocket with less than an ounce of methamphetamine inside. They took him into custody and escorted him into the jail for booking.

Then police turned to Teems, and continued to search the vehicle. Inside they found another metal container in the driver’s side door with “a quantity of marijuana less than an ounce.”

“Teems advised that it came from Colorado and it used to have a blunt inside of it,” reports stated.

Teems was also taken into custody and booked into the jail during the traffic stop. Items found in the car and on Nettles were then placed in evidence, and the SUV was towed. Reports did not include any additional information about any altercation with officers during the incident, but Teems faced additional charges when she was booked into jail for obstruction and simple battery of a police officer.

Nettles was charged with felonies for possession of methamphetamine, possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, and two counts of crossing the state/county guard line with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent. He was released after three days in jail on a $9,000 bond.

Teems was also booked on felony charges of two counts of crossing the state/county guard line with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent, possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of methamphetamine, and obstructing law enforcement officers. She was additionally charged with misdemeanors for possession of marijuana less than an ounce, improper parking and simple battery against police officer/law enforcement dog/corrections or detention officer.

Her bond was set at $13,000 and she was also released after three days in the Polk County Jail.
