The polls are open in Cedartown and Rockmart for Early Voting in the May 24 Primary as county and statewide positions are up for decisions for the November ballot.
Republicans remain the major party here locally, and most of the candidates that people will want to vote on are featured on the GOP ballot this year. Those include County Commission races, the State House 16th District race, Superior Court Judge races and a congressional, senate and contested governor’s race.
Democrats also have congressional, senate and gubernatorial races to decide as well locally, but no candidates are featured on the Democratic ballot in Polk County for this election cycle.
Primaries will determine who will represent Polk County in the District 1, District 2 and District 3 seats up this year, along with the 16th District State House seat on the Republican ballot.
Voters can head over to the Board of Elections office in Cedartown at 144 West Ave., or to the Nathan Dean Community Center at 605 Goodyear Ave., Rockmart, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays through May 20.
Saturday voting for the primaries will be held this Saturday, May 7, and Saturday, May 14.
Check back for more on early voting on Tuesday with the first count of how many voters visited precincts.
