Polk County is joining other counties in the region that have been placed on a tornado watch through the rest of the afternoon and evening hours.
Forecasters in Peachtree City with the National Weather Service are placing the area under a tornado watch, along with a flash flood watch until tomorrow night, October 7 at 8 p.m.
A line of storms from central and east Alabama is moving into the Northwest Georgia area. Forecasters believe strong storms could potentially produce tornadic activity.
Specifically, isolated thunderstorms with the potential to produce heavy rainfall are expected. The forecast also calls for the potential for frequent lightning and strong, gusty winds with the potential for downed trees will also be threats.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected through the end of Thursday night, and the potential for rain expands into Friday morning. Wet weather should be out of area by the weekend.
