Report: Aragon man put shotgun to head during standoff with PCPD

The Polk County Police Department and the Aragon Police Department were both involved in a standoff this afternoon with a man who tried to get officers to shoot him, according to the department’s Facebook page in an evening media release.

The following release was provided by the Polk County Police:

On September 13, 2021 in the late afternoon hours, Patrol Officers with the Uniformed Patrol Division was dispatched to a Portland Road address in reference to a subject with a firearm. The Aragon Police Department responded as mutual aid assistance.

Upon the arrival of the Patrol Officers, they made contact with a twenty-year-old male subject with a pump shotgun. The male subject then placed the shotgun to his chin and began requesting for officers to shoot him.

After an approximate two-hour standoff with law enforcement, the male subject surrendered the firearm to law enforcement. The male subject was then transported by Redmond EMS to receive the help that he needed.

Upon the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined that the male subject had called Polk County E-911 on himself.

The individual is not facing charges from the Polk County Police, per an official with the department.

A motive was not immediately available. He was transported by Redmond EMS for further mental and physical evaluation and was taken voluntarily by paramedics for treatment.
