The Polk County Board of Education took time out for an activity they enjoy during their regular session on August 10: celebrating student success.
RHS student Josie Allen was the silver medal finalist in the United States after taking a 2021 state SkillsUSA title in First Aid and CPR in the annual competition held in Louisville, Kentucky back in June.
Allen was called up to the front of the Board of Education to receive honors and gifts from the district for her national-level accomplishment. Joining her as well was Brandy Henderson.
The pair received a round of applause from the audience during the evening meeting.
“Nothing brings us more pleasure than to be able to celebrate our student’s success,” Superintendent Dr. Katie Thomas said. “We can not be more proud of her accomplishment.”
Allen was also featured on the Polk School District Facebook page, and was given some awards and a check for her silver medal win for $50, and shirts recognizing her achievement.
Thomas added that Allen “represents us well.” The RHS student joins a prestigious group of students who over the past years have found success in the SkillsUSA competition on a state, national and worldwide level.
