Tropical Storm Elsa is making its way into Florida after moving into the Gulf of Mexico in recent hours, and it is likely Northwest Georgia is going to feel some of the impact in the form of wet weather.
The National Weather Service is already posting on their outlook for the next several days that Polk County and the surrounding area is likely to bring moderate to heavy rainfall over the next several days as the storm moves inland.
Don’t expect the rain to come in one fell swoop as it did with the last storm, Claudette, as it moved through the region after making landfall on the Mississippi and Louisiana gulf coastlines and pushed through Northwest Georgia in mid-June.
Likely this round of stormy weather will be sporadic in scattered thunderstorms expected.
Forecasts from Peachtree City did report that some of the storms might produce severe impacts with heavy rainfall, gusty winds and frequent lightning.
The forecast overall calls for chances of showers continuing through this afternoon and the rest of the week and into the weekend.
Tropical Storm Elsa was 65 miles Northwest of Key West, Florida during an update posted this morning from the NWS’s National Hurricane Center. Maximum sustained winds were at 60 mph as it moved northward, and is expected to make a turn toward the northeast after making landfall in Florida by 8 a.m. Wednesday, traveling over the northern portion of the state and moving northeast to impact up the entire eastern seaboard through the rest of the week.
Check back for more updates as they become available this week.
