If you haven’t looked outside your window yet today and you were hoping for a sunny Father’s Day weekend, well then disappointment is in store as the remnants of Tropical Storm Claudette are moving into Polk County, and are set to stick around and leave a lot of rainfall in its wake over the next couple of days.
A Flash Flood Watch is going into effect starting at 2 p.m. and will remain there until Sunday evening as the tropical low pressure system that was Tropical Storm Claudette moves over North and Central Georgia, according to the National Weather Service’s latest update.
The latest forecast calls for at least three inches of rain, and in some areas accumulation of six inches of rain through Sunday. Creeks and streams will potentially to rise out of their banks and street flooding is also possible over the course of the next 36 to 48 hours.
Claudette made landfall on the Gulf Coat overnight, and already left a swath of flooding as it drenched the gulf coast. The outer bands of rain began impacting Polk County around 11 a.m. this morning.
