How will 2020 football season work out? Still unknown, but on track according to GHSA

Football schedules are in place for Cedartown and Rockmart High School, though whether anyone will be allowed in the stadium to watch remains up in the air according to the AJC.

In a video podcast with GHSA Executive Director Robin Hines, the AJC reported that the organization is now allowing intrasquad workouts, so that practice can move forward with defenders and wide receivers going up against one another in something like a 7-on-7 camp.

They also reported that Hines said the season is on track to start on schedule, but that GHSA is watching the COVID-19 numbers. He did not say whether in-person attendance at games would be allowed.

One item remaining the same: no change to eligibility requirements for the 2020 season.

Locally, no announcements about changes in the football schedules have been made. Cedartown and Rockmart both move into new regions, and the Jackets into a new classification with the start of the season. Rockmart opens against Rome, and Cedartown against Carrollton in the Corky Kell Classic on August 21, unless the situation changes over the course of the next several weeks.

However, that could change rapidly should case numbers rise to a concerning level quickly. So right now? Expect the unexpected for the 2020 season.
